A sweet sixteen is a big moment, and for many GTA teens it's the biggest party they've thrown so far. Whether it's a banquet hall celebration with a DJ and a choreographed entrance, a backyard party in Mississauga or a glam night in a Toronto event space, the guests have one thing in common: they want photos and videos they can post. That makes the photo booth one of the most important pieces of the plan.

If you're planning a sweet sixteen and your teen has already asked for a 360 booth, here's how to choose the booth, the theme, the props and the timing, and keep the line safe. For a sweet sixteen photo booth, choose a 360 booth for teen guests, match the backdrop and props to the party theme, design a template with the birthday star's name, open the booth when the dancing starts and keep the line moving.

    1. Choose the booth

Booth Why it works for a sweet sixteen
360 booth Short slow-motion videos made for Instagram and TikTok
Mirror booth Full-length glam photos with prints
Digital booth Quick group photos, GIFs and prints for family

Most sweet sixteens choose a 360 booth. If relatives are attending, add a print booth or an audio guest book so they have a keepsake too.

Think about the guest list. If the party includes parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents, they'll want photos too, often with the birthday star. A print booth beside the 360, or a dedicated "family hour" at the 360 before the friends take over, keeps everyone happy.

    2. Pick a theme

A clear theme makes the booth look intentional:

    • Glam night: black, gold and sequins
    • Pastel dream: soft pinks, lilacs and blues
    • Neon glow: dark room, neon props and glow sticks
    • Masquerade: masks, deep colours and candlelight (LED only near the booth)
    • Hollywood: red carpet, stanchions and a step-and-repeat

The theme guides the backdrop, props and template.

    3. Backdrops and lighting

For a 360 booth, the background shows in a full circle, so pick a spot where the room looks good from every angle. A sequin or shimmer wall frames the main angle; uplighting and the dance floor fill the rest. For a glow party, a dark room and neon props look striking in slow motion.

    4. Props teens actually use

    • Statement sunglasses and tiaras
    • Signs with trending phrases (approved by the birthday star)
    • "Sweet 16" balloons and crowns
    • Light confetti or streamers for the 360 booth (check venue rules)
    • Feather boas and fans

Keep props short and light so nothing reaches the 360 arm.

Make sure props are on a tidy table near the booth and that the attendant refreshes them during the night. Teens move fast and props wander, so a quick reset between rushes keeps the clips looking good.

    5. Design the template

Put the birthday star front and centre: their name, "Sweet 16" and the date, in the party's colours. Keep it clean and bold so it reads on a phone screen. Let the birthday teen approve the design; they'll know what looks right to their friends.

    6. Timing around the programme

Many sweet sixteens include a grand entrance, a choreographed dance, a candle-lighting or toast and a cake moment. Keep the booth paused during those, and open it when the dance floor opens.

    • Booth paused during the entrance and programme
    • Opens when the dancing starts
    • Runs for two to three hours
    • Closes before the party winds down

    7. Keep the line moving and safe

Teens can happily stay in a 360 booth all night. A good attendant rotates groups, makes sure everyone gets a turn, limits how many step on at once and keeps lifts and piggybacks off the platform unless safe. See our 360 booth safety guide.

It's worth giving the birthday star and their closest friends a few minutes on the platform before the line opens. They can try out a few moves, get comfortable with the spin and record a couple of clips without an audience. Those clips often end up as the birthday post.

    8. Home sweet sixteens

Many sweet sixteens are held at home. A cleared garage with a flat floor is often the best 360 spot. Basements work if the ceiling is high enough. Backyards need a level patio, power and a rain plan. Send photos of the space when you book.

After the party, share the gallery link with guests so everyone can download their clips, including friends who forgot to send them to their phones on the night.

Example: a glam sweet sixteen in a Mississauga hall

Say your daughter's sweet sixteen is at a Mississauga hall with a black-and-gold theme, a choreographed entrance and 80 friends. Book a 360 beside the dance floor with a black sequin backdrop and gold confetti. Keep the booth closed during the entrance and the candle ceremony. Give your daughter and her best friends ten minutes on the platform before the doors open to the line. Their clip becomes her birthday post.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a 360 booth worth it for a sweet sixteen?

For most teen crowds, yes. Sixteen-year-olds love short videos they can post, and a 360 booth gives them exactly that. Add prints if grandparents and relatives are attending.

Can a sweet sixteen photo booth be set up at home?

Yes, in a cleared garage, large basement or level backyard patio. Measure the space and ceiling height, and send photos before booking.

How long should the booth run at a sweet sixteen?

Two to three hours usually covers it, placed once most guests have arrived and the dancing starts.
