Graduation season in the GTA runs from late spring into early summer, and it's one of the busiest times of the year for photo booths. High school proms in hotel ballrooms, graduation parties in backyards from Brampton to Scarborough, university convocation celebrations in Toronto restaurants and family dinners for college graduates all compete for the same June weekends. For graduates who've been posting their whole lives, a 360 booth is often the first thing on the wish list.

If you're planning a graduation party or a prom this June, here's how to choose a booth, theme it to the school and keep a young crowd moving safely. For a graduation party or prom photo booth, choose a 360 booth for a young crowd, use school colours and the graduation year in the template, place the booth near the music, keep the line safe and book early for June.

    1. Choose the booth

    Event Recommended booth
High school prom 360 booth, plus a print booth for large proms
Graduation house party 360 booth on a level patio or in a garage, or a digital booth
Family graduation dinner Digital booth with prints
University or college celebration 360 or mirror booth

Teen and young adult crowds head straight for the 360 booth. If parents and grandparents are attending, add prints so they have a keepsake too.

Think about the mix of guests. A graduation party often has two crowds: the graduate's friends, who want clips for social media, and the family, who want a printed photo with the graduate in their gown. Running a 360 booth with a short "family photo" window at the start of the party, before the friends take over, keeps both groups happy.

    2. Themes and colours

Graduation parties have a built-in theme: the school. Use school colours for the backdrop, balloons and template, or go with classic graduation black and gold. Prom committees often choose their own theme, such as Hollywood, masquerade or a city, and the booth should follow it.

A backdrop with the graduation year ("Class of 2026") is a simple, popular choice that works for any school.

    3. Templates and overlays

Include the graduate's name, the school, "Class of" and the year. For proms, use the prom theme and the school's name. If you want to use the school's crest or logo, check that the school permits it.

Keep the design bold and simple so it reads on a phone. Graduates will post these clips, so a clean overlay matters.

    4. Props for graduates

    • Graduation caps and tassels
    • "Class of 2026" and "Grad Squad" signs
    • Diplomas and scroll props
    • Signs with the graduate's next step ("Off to U of T", "Future Nurse")
    • Sunglasses, crowns and confetti for the 360 booth

Ask the graduate for sign ideas. Inside jokes and future plans make the best props.

    5. Backyard graduation parties

Many graduation parties are held at home. For a 360 booth outdoors, you need a level patio or deck, a grounded outlet nearby and shelter from wind and sun. A cleared garage is often the best spot. Evening light suits booth photos far better than midday sun.

Plan a rain backup, and think about the neighbours: check your city's noise bylaw for quiet hours and plan the booth's closing time accordingly. Our outdoor photo booth guide covers more.

    6. Proms in halls and hotels

Proms are usually held in hotel ballrooms or banquet halls. Ask the venue about load-in times, vendor insurance and the booth's spot near the dance floor. Schools may also have their own vendor requirements. The prom committee or teacher in charge should share these with the booth company early.

If several families are combining a graduation party, as often happens with friends graduating from the same school, a shared booth booking can split the cost. Agree in advance on the template, the hours and who the booth company's contact is.

    7. Safety with a young crowd

Excited graduates on a spinning platform need clear rules. A good attendant limits how many people step on, keeps the buffer zone clear, bans lifts and piggybacks unless safe and keeps props short and light. See our 360 booth safety guide.

At proms, the attendant also keeps the line fair so every student gets a turn, not just the first few groups.

    8. Book early for June

June weekends fill with graduations, proms and weddings across the GTA. Book as soon as you know your date, ideally in early spring. For prom committees working within school timelines, contact the booth company before the budget is finalized to get an accurate quote. LUNO quotes each booking for your booth, hours and location; the Standard, Premium and Luxury packages are listed with what each includes.

Example: three friends sharing one grad party

Say three families from the same Vaughan high school decide to host one joint grad party in a backyard. Agree on one contact for the booth company, split the cost and choose a template with all three names, the school colours and "Class of 2026". Open a 360 at 6 p.m. for a family hour, so parents and grandparents get photos with the graduates in their gowns, then hand it over to the friends. Close by 10 to keep the neighbours happy.
