Live Sketch Portraits: A Caricature Station Without the Hour-Long Line

Everyone loves a caricature artist, until they see the line. A traditional artist draws maybe 15 guests an hour, which means most of your guests leave without a portrait and the ones who wait miss the speeches.

LUNO Live Sketch keeps the magic and loses the wait. Guests sit for a photo, then watch their portrait appear on screen stroke by stroke, as if an artist were drawing it in front of them. A live sketch station draws each guest's portrait before their eyes in about a minute and prints it as a framed 4×6 keepsake with your event name, serving roughly 40 to 60 guests an hour.

Quick answer: price, area and booking

Live Sketch is part of LUNO Labs, our collection of digital event experiences, and is quoted per event based on hours, stations and printing. LUNO brings it to venues across Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan, Toronto and the areas we serve across the GTA. Travel within Brampton is included; any travel fee elsewhere is shown on your quote.

    1. How a live sketch station works

A guest steps up, centres their face in the frame and smiles for a three-second count. The canvas then fills in line by line: outline first, then shading, then a wash of watercolour. The guest watches the whole drawing happen, which is half the fun and the reason a small crowd tends to gather.

When it's done, the portrait appears in a gold frame with your event name and date, ready to print as a 4×6 and to take home digitally by QR code or email.

    2. Choosing a drawing style

Live Sketch offers several looks, so you can match the mood of the room:

    • Artist: a loose, hand-sketched pencil look with colour wash
    • Classic: a clean portrait style that suits galas and weddings
    • Studio: a polished, editorial finish for corporate events
    • Anime: a playful style teens and kids ask for by name

Most hosts pick one signature look for consistency, then let guests try a second style if there's no line.

    3. Speed versus a traditional caricature artist

    Traditional caricaturist LUNO Live Sketch
Time per guest 3–5 minutes About 1 minute
Guests per hour About 12–20 About 40–60
Event branding Rarely Name and date on every print
Digital copy Photo of the paper Full-resolution download

The trade-off is honest: a human artist brings a personality to the table, and some hosts love that. Live Sketch is for events where you want most of your guests to leave with a portrait.

    4. Where it fits best

Corporate holiday parties and galas are the natural home for Live Sketch. Guests are dressed up, they want a keepsake that isn't another selfie, and the branded frame turns every portrait into a small piece of company culture that ends up on desks and fridges.

It also works at weddings during cocktail hour, at milestone birthdays where relatives want a framed memory of the day, and at brand activations where the drawing on screen pulls people toward your booth.

    5. Space, power and setup

A station needs a small table, a power outlet, a spot with even light on guests' faces and room for a short queue. Avoid placing it right beside the DJ or in a dark corner of the dance floor. A lobby, a cocktail area or the end of a hallway works well.

    • A small table for the screen
    • One power outlet nearby
    • Even, front-facing light
    • Space for 4–6 people to watch

    6. Privacy and keepsakes

Each portrait is kept privately for the guest to take home by QR code or email, so guests only share the ones they love. If you'd like a full set of the night's portraits for a wedding album or an annual party recap, ask us when you book.

    7. Pairing it with a booth

Live Sketch is a calm, seated experience, so it pairs well with an energetic one. Put it in the cocktail area and a 360 photo booth rental by the dance floor, and guests get both a framed portrait and a video clip without one crowding the other.

Example: a 200-guest holiday party in Vaughan

Say a Vaughan company hosts 200 staff at a banquet hall. One Live Sketch station runs for three hours from the end of dinner, drawing well over a hundred portraits in the Studio style with the company name and "Holiday 2026" on each frame. Staff take their prints home, and the portraits on desks keep the party going into January.

    Frequently asked questions

How many guests can a live sketch station draw per hour?

About 40 to 60 guests per hour per station, because each portrait is drawn in about a minute. For larger events, add a second station or schedule it for the busiest stretch of the night.

What do guests take home from a live sketch station?

A colour portrait in a gold frame with your event name and date, as a 4×6 print and a digital copy they can take home by QR code or email.

Is live sketch suitable for corporate holiday parties?

Yes, it's one of the best fits. The portraits carry your company or event name, guests move through quickly and the drawing itself draws a crowd around the station.
