Photo Booths for Cultural Celebrations: Eid, Diwali, Lunar New Year and Christmas Parties

The GTA celebrates almost every festival on the calendar. Eid parties fill halls in Mississauga and Scarborough; Diwali lights up homes and banquet halls across Brampton; Vaisakhi brings huge community celebrations; Lunar New Year banquets fill restaurants in Markham, Scarborough and downtown Toronto; Christmas and New Year's parties run through December everywhere. Each brings families together in their finest clothes, which makes a photo booth a natural fit.
If you're hosting an Eid, Diwali, Vaisakhi, Lunar New Year or Christmas celebration anywhere in the GTA, here's how to plan a photo booth that respects the occasion. For a cultural celebration photo booth, book early for festival weekends, design a template with greetings in the right languages, choose a backdrop that reflects the festival, keep the booth separate from prayers or ceremonies and open it once the party begins.
1. Book early for festival weekends
Festival dates move each year, and many overlap with other busy periods. Diwali often falls in the fall wedding season, Eid dates shift through the year and December brings Christmas and corporate parties at once. Families, community organizations and companies all compete for the same weekends.
As soon as you know your date, reach out. If your first choice is taken, a Friday night or weekday evening may still be available.
2. Choose the booth
| Celebration style | Recommended booth |
|---|---|
| Large hall party with dancing | 360 booth, plus a print booth |
| Family gathering at home | Digital booth with prints |
| Community gala or banquet | Mirror or 360 booth |
| Corporate cultural celebration | Digital or 360 booth with branding |
Festive outfits look spectacular in a 360 booth's slow motion. Elders often prefer a print booth, so for large family events, consider both.
Many families also want a keepsake that goes beyond photos. A photo guest book or audio guest book lets guests leave festival wishes and blessings for the hosts.
3. Templates with the right greetings
The template is where you honour the occasion. Include:
- The greeting in the right language and script
- The host family's or organization's name
- The year
- Motifs that suit the festival: lanterns, crescents, diyas, khanda symbols, plum blossoms or snowflakes
Send all non-English text typed out and have a native speaker proofread the proof. Getting the greeting exactly right shows respect for the guests and the festival.
4. Backdrops and colours
| Festival | Backdrop ideas |
|---|---|
| Eid | Lanterns, crescent moon, deep jewel tones with gold |
| Diwali | Marigold garlands, rangoli patterns, warm lights |
| Vaisakhi | Bright yellows and oranges, harvest motifs |
| Lunar New Year | Red and gold, lanterns, the year's zodiac animal |
| Christmas | Evergreen, red and gold, or a white winter scene |
Keep the backdrop slightly simpler than the outfits, which are often the most colourful thing in the room.
Props can add to the festive feel when they suit the occasion: lanterns and crescent signs for Eid, paper fans and battery diyas for Diwali, red envelopes and lanterns for Lunar New Year and Santa hats or ornaments for Christmas. Keep them respectful of the occasion and easy for guests of every age to hold.
5. Respecting customs and timing
Many cultural celebrations include prayers, rituals or religious elements. Keep the booth closed and away from those moments, and open it once the social part of the evening begins. Ask the host or organizer when the booth should open and whether there are any customs to be aware of, such as gender-separated areas or modesty considerations for photos.
6. Fire safety
Diyas, candles and lanterns are part of many festivals. Keep open flames well away from the booth, backdrop and props. Battery-operated diyas, LED candles and paper lanterns with LED lights give the same warm glow in photos without the risk.
7. Community and organizational events
Mosques, temples, gurdwaras, churches, cultural associations and community centres across the GTA host festival celebrations. A booth adds a shareable element for families, and a template with the organization's name helps promote future events. Check the venue's rules on vendors, power and photography before booking.
8. Corporate festival celebrations
More GTA companies now celebrate Diwali, Eid, Lunar New Year and other festivals with their staff. A booth with a template that greets the occasion, plus subtle company branding, makes these events feel inclusive and celebratory. See our corporate event photo booth guide for branding and paperwork.
Afterwards, a gallery link makes it easy to share the celebration with relatives in other countries, who often can't attend festival gatherings in person.
Example: an Eid party in a Mississauga hall
Say your family is hosting an Eid celebration in a Mississauga hall for 150 guests. Choose a template with "Eid Mubarak" in English and Arabic script, in emerald and gold, and a backdrop with lanterns. Keep the booth closed during prayers and open it once the meal is served. Ask the attendant to call up family groups throughout the evening. If some guests prefer not to be photographed together, the attendant can arrange separate group photos without fuss.
When to bring in a booth company
Reach out as soon as your festival date and venue are set, and share any customs the booth team should know.

Frequently asked questions
Can the template include greetings in several languages?
Yes. Send each greeting typed out, such as Eid Mubarak, Happy Diwali, Gong Hei Fat Choy or Merry Christmas, and have a native speaker proofread the design.
How early should we book for a festival weekend?
As early as possible. Festival weekends can be among the busiest of the year in the GTA, especially when they overlap with wedding season or December.
Is a 360 booth appropriate for a religious celebration?
At the party or reception, often yes. Many families keep the booth separate from prayers or ceremonies and open it afterwards. Follow your community's customs and your venue's rules.
