No More Blinks: How an AI Event Camera Waits for the Perfect Group Photo
The LUNO Events Team
Published · Updated · 5 min read
Every group photo has one: the cousin mid-blink, the uncle looking at his phone, the friend who turned away just as the timer went off. A traditional booth counts "3, 2, 1" and hopes for the best. An AI event camera does the opposite: it waits until the photo is ready.
LUNO Moment is our experiment in AI photography for events. An AI event camera watches every face, cues anyone who isn't ready, takes the shot when every eye is open, corrects venue lighting and delivers a branded 4×6 in about a second, all on the device.
Quick answer: price, area and booking
LUNO Moment is a LUNO Labs experiment that we're field-testing at venues across Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan, Toronto and the areas we serve across the GTA. It isn't sold as a standalone package yet; ask about adding it to a LUNO booth booking so your guests can try it.
1. How an AI event camera works
When people step into frame, the camera starts a short get-ready. It then watches each face and places live cues over anyone who isn't ready: eyes open, look here, hold still. The moment everyone is ready, it takes the photo, captures a short burst and picks the best frame, not just the one that happened at "zero."
The guest sees the finished photo with "other moments from this burst" so they can swap if they prefer another.
2. Fixing banquet-hall lighting
GTA banquet halls love coloured uplighting, and phones and booths hate it. Purple and blue light turns skin grey, backlit windows turn faces into silhouettes, and dance floors are simply dark. Moment corrects white balance, lifts face exposure and reduces haze, so guests look like themselves rather than like they're standing in a nightclub.
3. New backgrounds without a green screen
Moment can swap the background behind guests without a green screen, which means no fabric wall to set up and no green edges in the photo. Hosts can choose a gallery border or a full-bleed photo with event branding, and the result is ready as a 4×6 in about a second.
4. Privacy by design
Everything runs on the device. Frames are analysed in the browser and never uploaded. A photo only leaves the device if the guest chooses to take it home by QR code, email or text. That makes it a strong fit for corporate events and family gatherings where people care about where their photos go.
5. Who it's for
| Situation | Why Moment helps |
|---|---|
| Big family groups | Waits until all eyes are open |
| Dark or coloured lighting | Fixes colour casts and exposure |
| No space for a backdrop | Replaces the background digitally |
| Corporate events | On-device privacy and branded prints |
Group mode handles most event photos, while a far-group setting with the rear camera suits groups of eight or more.
6. What we're testing
Venues aren't lab conditions, so we test Moment at real events and log how each shot performs (numbers only, never images). Each test helps us tune it for the lighting and crowds of GTA venues, from Vaughan banquet halls to Toronto lofts. Field-testing means the experience improves quickly, and early guests get a first look at the future of event photography.
7. Pairing it with a LUNO booth
Moment is designed to sit alongside our booths. At a wedding, a 360 photo booth rental captures slow-motion clips on the dance floor, while Moment handles the large family groups that always gather after the ceremony.
8. Settings hosts can choose
Moment adapts to the event rather than forcing one setup on every room:
- Auto-capture starts the get-ready when people step in, so guests never press a button.
- Get-ready time can be none, three or five seconds before it starts watching.
- Wait for smiles also cues anyone with a neutral face.
- Sounds add soft beeps, a chime and a shutter click, or stay silent during speeches.
- Distance switches between close-ups of one to three people, most event groups and far groups of eight or more.
Example: family photos at a Vaughan banquet hall
Say 40 relatives want a group photo under purple uplighting. Instead of six attempts and a blinking grandmother, Moment cues the stragglers, waits until everyone is looking, corrects the purple cast and delivers a branded 4×6 in about a second. The whole family gets the photo by QR code before they've even sat back down.

Frequently asked questions
How does an AI event camera know when to take the photo?
It watches every face in the frame, shows cues like eyes open or look here over anyone who isn't ready, and takes the shot when everyone's eyes are open. It then picks the best frame from a short burst.
Are guests' photos uploaded to the cloud?
No. LUNO Moment analyses frames on the device. A photo only leaves the device if a guest chooses to take it home by QR code, email or text.
Is LUNO Moment available to book now?
LUNO Moment is a LUNO Labs experiment that we're field-testing at real venues. Ask us about including it at your event alongside a LUNO booth.
