Mirror Photo Booth vs Digital Photo Booth: Which Looks Better?

If you've narrowed your options to a classic photo booth rather than a 360 video booth, you'll usually be choosing between two styles: a mirror booth and a digital booth. Both take photos, both print and both share to phones. The difference is in how they look in the room, how guests interact with them and what the photos look like. At a black-tie reception in Vaughan and a backyard fortieth in Mississauga, the right answer can be different.

If you've narrowed it down to a classic photo booth and are choosing between a mirror and a digital booth, here's how they compare in your room, with your crowd and in the photos. Choose a mirror booth for formal events where full-length outfits and a statement piece matter; choose a digital booth for a smaller footprint, faster group photos and flexible GIF and boomerang modes.

    1. What each booth is

A mirror booth is a full-length mirror with a camera behind it. When guests step up, animations and prompts appear on the glass, guiding them through the photo. Guests often sign their photo on the mirror before it prints.

A digital booth is a compact unit with a touchscreen and a camera, often on a stand with a ring light. Guests tap to start, pose for a few shots and choose how to share or print.

LUNO runs both: the LUXE Mirror booth and the Premium Digital booth.

    2. Look and presence in the room

The mirror booth is a statement piece. Its ornate or sleek frame looks like part of the décor, which is why it's popular at formal receptions in Kleinburg, Toronto hotels and banquet halls with elaborate styling. The digital booth is more discreet. It fits into almost any décor and doesn't compete with a flower wall or a stage backdrop.

    3. The photos themselves

    Mirror booth Digital booth
Framing Full-length, head to toe Waist-up to full group
Best for Outfits, gowns, couples Groups, candid fun
Modes Photos, prints, signatures Photos, GIFs, boomerangs, prints
    Feel Glamorous Playful

If outfits are a big part of your event, a mirror booth shows them off. If you want silly group shots and GIFs, a digital booth is more flexible.

    4. Guest experience

The mirror's animations and voice prompts are a novelty, and guests enjoy seeing their full reflection. Signing the photo on the glass is a nice touch for weddings. The digital booth is faster: a group can step in, pose and step out in less time, which matters when your guest list is large and the booth window is short.

    5. Footprint and setup

A mirror booth needs room in front for guests to stand back far enough for a full-length photo, plus a backdrop behind them. A digital booth can sit closer to a wall and adapt to tighter spaces. In a condo party room or a busy restaurant, the digital booth often wins on space alone.

    • Measure the spot, including space in front of the booth
    • Check for a power outlet within reach
    • Plan a backdrop that suits the booth's framing

    6. Prints and keepsakes

Both booths print. A mirror booth's full-length prints work beautifully in a photo guest book, especially at weddings. A digital booth's strips are classic and quick. Either can be paired with an audio guest book. See prints vs digital sharing for how to choose.

    7. Cost

Mirror booths usually cost a little more because the equipment is larger and setup takes longer. LUNO quotes both per event; the LUXE Mirror includes unlimited prints, and the Premium Digital adds GIFs and boomerangs. If your budget is fixed, compare what you'd lose: the mirror's presence, or extra hours with a digital booth.

    8. Quick verdict by event

    • Black-tie wedding reception or gala: Mirror booth. It looks like décor and flatters formal outfits.
    • Sangeet, mehndi or cultural celebration with bold outfits: Mirror booth if you want full-length looks, or a 360 if you want movement.
    • Milestone birthday at a restaurant or home: Digital booth for its footprint and GIFs.
    • Office holiday party: Digital booth for speed and branded templates.
    • Baby or bridal shower: Either works; a digital booth leaves more room for décor.
    • Large guest list with a short window: Digital booth, because groups move through faster.

If two of these describe your event, ask your booth company whether running both is possible in your room.

Example: a black-tie gala versus a restaurant birthday

Say you're planning two events this year: a black-tie charity gala in a Toronto hotel ballroom and your partner's birthday in a Port Credit restaurant's private room. For the gala, the mirror booth fits: it looks like décor, shows off gowns and suits head to toe and prints elegant full-length photos. For the restaurant, where tables reach the walls, a digital booth fits in a corner and moves groups through quickly. Same budget mindset, different rooms, different answers.

When to bring in a booth company

Share your venue, décor plan and guest count. A good company will tell you which booth suits the room and how each would look with your backdrop.

    Frequently asked questions

Do mirror photo booths print photos?

Most do, including LUNO's LUXE Mirror booth. Prints are one of the main reasons people choose a mirror booth for formal receptions. Ask whether prints are unlimited in your package.

Is a mirror booth harder for guests to use?

Not really. On-screen animations guide guests through each step, and an attendant is there to help. Some guests find the full-length mirror more fun because they can see their whole outfit.

Does a mirror booth need more space than a digital booth?

Usually a little more, because full-length photos need guests to stand back from the mirror. Ask your booth company for the footprint, including room in front for groups.
