Cotton Candy Machine Rental: Tips for Kids' Parties and Events
The LUNO Events Team
Published · Updated · 5 min read
Cotton candy is pure party magic. Kids watch the sugar spin into a cloud, adults remember their own childhood fairs and the colours make every photo brighter. A cotton candy machine is a favourite at kids' birthday parties, baby showers, school fun fairs, Eid and Diwali celebrations, corporate family days and even weddings with a dessert station. It's simple, joyful and unforgettable.
If you're planning a party and the kids have already asked for cotton candy, here's what to know about packages, colours and keeping cones fluffy on a humid Ontario day. To rent a cotton candy machine in the GTA, choose self-serve for small parties or an operator for large events, match the floss colour to your theme, serve cones fresh in humid weather and place the machine on a stable table near power, away from play areas.
1. Self-serve or operator?
LUNO offers two ways to rent a cotton candy machine:
| Basic package | Premium package | |
|---|---|---|
| Who spins the candy | You | A LUNO operator |
| Servings | Supplies for up to 50 guests, more available | Unlimited for 3 hours |
| Getting it there | Pickup, or delivery as an add-on | Delivery available as an add-on |
| Price | $175 per machine, plus $60 per extra 50 servings | From $275 for 3 hours, plus $100 per extra hour |
Spinning a neat cone takes a little practice. For a small home party, a parent can learn quickly. For school fairs, corporate events and large parties, an operator keeps the line moving and every cone looking great.
If you're running the machine yourself, have a quick practice before guests arrive. Spin a few cones to get a feel for how fast the floss builds up and how to turn the cone. The first couple are usually lopsided; by the fifth, you'll be making cones that look like they came from a fair.
2. Colours and flavours
Cotton candy can match your party's theme:
- Pink or purple for princess parties and baby showers
- Blue for boy-themed showers or sports parties
- School colours for fun fairs
- Mixed colours for rainbow and carnival themes
LUNO's cotton candy rentals include cones and two flavours. Let us know your theme when you book.
3. Humidity and timing
Cotton candy is sugar spun into thin threads, and it absorbs moisture from the air. On humid Ontario summer days, cones can shrink and get sticky within minutes. To keep it fluffy:
- Spin cones fresh, as guests line up
- Keep the machine under cover, out of drizzle and direct sun
- Avoid making large batches in advance
- For favours, use sealed bags or tubs and hand them out at the end
Indoors, with air conditioning, cotton candy holds up much better.
4. Space and power
A cotton candy machine needs a sturdy, level table, a grounded outlet nearby and room around it for the operator or parent. The machine spins fast and gets hot, so it should be stable and away from edges. Like popcorn machines, cotton candy machines draw significant power while heating, so avoid sharing a circuit with a bouncy castle blower.
5. Safety around kids
The spinning head and heating element get hot. Keep the machine out of reach of small hands, away from play areas and running paths and handled only by adults or the operator. Sugar on the floor gets sticky, so set up on a surface that's easy to clean, or put down a mat.
6. Serving ideas
- Classic paper cones
- Cones wrapped with themed labels or the child's name
- Cotton candy in clear bags as party favours
- Cotton candy toppers on cupcakes or drinks at showers and weddings
Cotton candy makes great photos too, especially near a photo booth or balloon backdrop.
7. Pairing with other machines
A full carnival setup combines cotton candy with a popcorn machine and a shaved ice machine. For kids' parties, add a bouncy castle and balloon arch. Bundling rentals into one delivery saves time and makes setup simpler.
8. Cleanup
Sugar gets everywhere: on hands, tables, floors and sometimes in hair. Keep wet wipes and napkins nearby, set up near a garbage bin and wipe down surfaces at the end. Ask your rental company what cleaning is expected before return or pickup.
Plan when to serve, too. Cotton candy is a sugar rush, so many parents serve it toward the end of the party, after the meal and cake, or hand it out as a favour on the way out the door. At school fairs and corporate events, a steady flow through the afternoon works well.
Example: a pink-themed baby shower
Say you're hosting a baby shower with a blush and gold theme for 45 guests at home in Vaughan. The basic package ($175, supplies for up to 50 guests) is enough, and a family member can run it after a quick practice. Ask for pink floss to match the theme. Because cotton candy shrinks in humidity, spin cones as guests ask for them rather than in advance, and hand out bagged cotton candy as favours at the end.
When to bring in a rental company

Frequently asked questions
Is a cotton candy machine hard to use?
It takes a little practice to spin a neat cone. Many hosts choose an operator for larger events so cones are consistent and the line keeps moving.
Can cotton candy match our party colours?
Often, yes. Coloured and flavoured floss sugar can match a theme, such as pink for a shower or blue and white for a school event. LUNO's cotton candy rentals include machine, cones and two flavours; ask which colours suit your theme.
Does humidity affect cotton candy?
Yes. Cotton candy absorbs moisture and can shrink or get sticky on humid days. Serve it fresh rather than making cones far in advance.
