A 25th, 40th or 50th anniversary party is a celebration of a marriage, and also of the family and friendships built around it. In the GTA, these parties take many forms: a big banquet hall celebration in Brampton or Vaughan with a DJ and dinner, a restaurant gathering in Toronto, a backyard party in Mississauga organized by the grown-up kids. The guest list usually spans every generation, from the couple's wedding party to their great-grandchildren.

A photo booth is a natural fit, because it does what anniversary parties are really about: bringing family together in one frame. For an anniversary party photo booth, choose a print booth that suits every age, design a then-and-now template with the couple's wedding photo, add a guest book for messages and organize family group photos.

    1. Choose the booth

    Restaurant dinner Digital booth
Backyard family party Digital booth under cover

Prints matter at anniversary parties. Older guests love taking a photo home, and printed photos fill a guest book that becomes a family keepsake.

Many anniversary parties are organized by the couple's children as a surprise or a gift. If that's you, coordinate the booth details with your siblings early, and give the booth company one contact person. It keeps decisions simple and avoids mixed messages about timing, templates and the guest list.

    2. The then-and-now template

The single most popular anniversary template idea is a then-and-now layout: the couple's original wedding photo on one side and their new booth photo on the other. Add their names, the years ("1976–2026") and the milestone ("50 Years of Love").

Send a good-quality scan of the original photo when you book, and approve a proof before the party. Older guests often spend a long time looking at these prints, and they become conversation pieces at the table.

    3. Family group photos

Ask the attendant to organize group photos throughout the evening:

    • The couple on their own
    • The couple with their children
    • The couple with all grandchildren
    • Each branch of the family
    • The original wedding party, if they're attending
    • Siblings of the couple

These group photos are often the ones families frame. A seated spot for the couple and elders makes it comfortable for everyone.

    4. Add a guest book

A photo guest book gives the couple a print and a written message from every guest. An audio guest book captures voice messages, which are especially moving at anniversaries: grandchildren sharing what they've learned from their grandparents, old friends recalling the wedding day. See audio guest book vs photo guest book.

Place it beside the booth with a prompt such as "Share your favourite memory of the couple" or "Your best marriage advice".

    5. Props for anniversary parties

    • Year signs ("50 Years", "Silver Anniversary", "Ruby Anniversary")
    • "Still Crazy After All These Years" and "Happily Ever After" signs
    • Crowns, tiaras and bow ties for the couple
    • Props from the decade they married
    • Bilingual signs in the family's language

Keep props light and easy to hold for older guests.

If the couple is renewing their vows, consider a short booth session for them immediately afterwards, in their outfits, before the rest of the party lines up. Those photos often become the anniversary portrait the family frames.

    6. Timing the booth

Anniversary parties usually include arrivals, dinner, speeches or a slideshow and sometimes a renewal of vows or a first dance. Open the booth after dinner and the speeches, and keep it running through dessert and dancing. For the then-and-now prints, ask the attendant to photograph the couple first, before the rush.

    7. Making it easy for every generation

Keep a chair in the booth, place the booth where it's easy to reach from the tables and make sure the attendant invites elders over during quieter moments. If grandchildren are attending, a short window early in the evening keeps them happy before bedtime.

    8. Venues across the GTA

Anniversary parties happen in banquet halls, restaurants, community centres and homes across the GTA. Confirm the venue's load-in time, power near the booth spot and floor space. For home parties, see our guide to outdoor photo booths in Ontario.

Afterwards, a gallery link sent to the whole family lets relatives who couldn't attend share in the celebration, and gives the couple every photo from their special day.

Example: a surprise 40th anniversary organized by the kids

Say you and your siblings are organizing your parents' 40th anniversary at a Vaughan restaurant, and it's a surprise. Pick one sibling as the booth company's contact. Scan your parents' wedding photo for a then-and-now template and send it with the booking. Set up a mirror booth with prints and an audio guest book where grandchildren can leave messages. Ask the attendant to photograph your parents first, right after the surprise, while they're still glowing. Those prints are the ones they'll keep.

When to bring in a booth company

Book once your date and venue are set. Summer weekends fill quickly across the GTA, and banquet halls book early for milestone parties.

    Frequently asked questions

Can the template include the couple's wedding photo?

Yes. A then-and-now template with the original wedding photo beside the new booth photo is a favourite at anniversary parties. Send a good-quality scan of the original.

Which booth is easiest for older guests?

A digital or mirror booth with prints. There's no platform to step onto, guests can sit if they like and everyone leaves with a printed keepsake.

Can grandchildren record messages for the couple?

Yes, with an audio guest book. Grandchildren, friends and family can leave voice messages that the couple keeps as audio files.
