Photo Booth Props That Guests Actually Use
The LUNO Events Team

Every photo booth comes with props, but walk past most booths at the end of the night and you'll see the same thing: a few favourites passed from group to group and a pile that nobody touched. The difference between a prop table that works and one that doesn't isn't how much is on it. It's whether the props suit the crowd, the event and the camera.
If you've seen prop tables where half the props never get touched, here's what guests actually reach for at weddings, birthdays, cultural celebrations and corporate events across the GTA. The props guests actually use are big, readable signs, statement glasses and hats, and a few themed pieces that match the event, set out on a tidy, well-lit table.
1. Signs and speech bubbles
Signs are the most-used prop at almost every event, because they say something. The best ones are short and readable from across the room:
- "Just Married", "Team Bride", "Team Groom"
- "Birthday Squad", "40 & Fabulous", "Class of 2026"
- Inside jokes, team slogans or family nicknames
Custom signs printed with your names or event details turn a generic prop table into something personal.
Signs work best when they're printed on sturdy card or foam board with a handle, in large, bold lettering. Thin paper signs bend and blur in photos, and small text is unreadable on a phone screen. A mix of one-word signs and short phrases gives guests options for every group size.
2. Glasses, hats and crowns
Oversized sunglasses, heart-shaped glasses, top hats, tiaras and crowns are reliable. They're quick to put on, don't hide faces and work for every age. Keep a few sizes so kids and adults can both use them.
3. Props for weddings
- Signs in English and in the couple's other languages
- Mini chalkboards for guests to write messages
- Veils, bow ties and flower crowns
- A frame prop with the couple's monogram
For sangeets and mehndis, swap in paper fans, parandis, mini umbrellas and dhol-themed signs.
Multi-day weddings are a chance to vary the props. Use playful, colourful props at the mehndi, bolder dance-floor props at the sangeet and a more elegant set at the reception. Guests who visit the booth at every event get something new each time, and your photos from each day look distinct.
4. Props for birthdays
Match the theme and age:
- Kids: Character masks, superhero capes, oversized glasses, a "Birthday Star" sign
- Teens and sweet sixteens: Statement sunglasses, feather boas, trendy phrase signs
- Milestone birthdays: Age signs ("Fifty and Fabulous"), retro props from the decade they were born
5. Props for corporate events
Corporate crowds are more likely to use props that feel on-brand:
- Signs with the company name, campaign line or event hashtag
- Props that relate to your product or industry
- Award-style props for recognition events
- "Best Team", "Q4 Champions" or department signs
Keep it professional but playful; people are happy to be silly when the prop gives them permission.
For conferences and trade shows in Toronto or Mississauga, props double as a talking point. A branded sign gets your company name into photos that attendees post to LinkedIn, and a prop tied to your product gives sales staff an easy way to start conversations with people waiting in line.
6. Props for 360 booths
In a 360 booth, props should move: confetti, streamers, fans, bubble guns and flip signs. Keep them short and light so nothing reaches the rotating arm. See our 360 booth safety guide for prop rules.
7. Props to skip
- Tiny props that disappear in the frame
- Masks that cover the whole face
- Anything sharp, heavy or fragile
- Inflatable props that pop or block the camera
- Messy items like glitter, unless the venue allows it
8. Setting up the prop table
Presentation matters as much as selection. Set out props in groups by type, use a small table close to the booth, light it well and keep a bin for returns. An attendant who tidies the table and hands out props to suit each group keeps it fresh all night.
Refresh the table during the event. Props migrate to tables, the dance floor and occasionally guests' cars. An attendant who does a sweep every hour, collects strays and puts the favourites back at the front keeps the booth looking inviting until the last photo.
Example: a prop table for an office holiday party
Say you're organizing your Mississauga office's holiday party. Instead of a big bin of generic props, ask each department for one inside-joke sign ("Spreadsheet Champions", "We Survived Q4"), add a few winter hats and oversized glasses and print one sign with the company name and year. That's about twenty props, every one of them relevant. Ask the attendant to hand team signs to each department as they arrive at the booth. People who'd never touch a feather boa will happily hold their team's sign.

Frequently asked questions
How many props does a photo booth need?
Fewer than you'd think. A curated table of 15 to 25 good props gets more use than a bin of 100 mismatched ones, because guests can see and grab what they want quickly.
Are props hygienic?
Ask your booth company how props are cleaned between events. Hard props like signs and glasses are easy to wipe down; fabric items should be laundered. Hand sanitizer at the prop table is a nice touch.
Can I bring my own props?
Usually, yes. Tell your booth company in advance so the attendant can set them out. Custom signs with your names, team slogans or inside jokes are often the most-used props of the night.
